Weekly Round-Up: #1.10

It’s weekly round-up time and boy what a week it’s been. Food, Family and friends have been the main themes.

60th Birthday BBQ

Last Sunday we celebrated Daves dads 60th birthday with a tradition family feast of a BBQ.

There was food aplenty and I made two cheesecakes. This one was my favourite – a beautiful baked vanilla cheesecake topped with juicy fresh figs & strawberries – absolutely delicious.

Birthday boy manning the BBQ.

Some beautiful photos of Daves parents garden. His mum loves nothing more than gardening and it shows – the garden is spectacular and these photos don’t really do it justice.

We all had a great time and it was lovely to see the birthday boy relaxing and enjoying his birthday.

Beauty: Skincare Summer Favourites

I’ve managed to post once this week – let me introduce to you my summer skincare saviours.

I have been loving these three products over the past couple of months. If you missed my post then check out Summer Beauty Favourites: Skincare Edition.

Food: Friday Indulgence

I had a friend visit me on Friday and we went out for a spot of lunch… and dinner.

We collected Dave from work at lunch time and headed to a cute little village cafe. I ordered the tuna & cheese panini which was really good.

In the evening we drove my friend back to Lowestoft and just couldn’t resist traditional fish and chips by the sea. I ordered haddock and chips and just could not eat it all. I was stuffed!

Art: Mindfulness in the Garden

When my friend visited we decided to bust out our creative sides and paint mindfully in the garden. It was such a lovely sunny day.

It was so relaxing just chatting and mindfully painting on a canvas. I really enjoyed the company and the creative freedom – definitely good for the soul.

I hope you have enjoyed my weekly round-up. What have you been up to this week? Do share! I love reading and replying to your comments.

  1. Such a lovely catch up Em!!! What a stunning garden for the BBQ – gosh Dave’s mum really does enjoy it as you can tell by how well manicured everything is! Gorgeous!
Oooh that fish & chips looks soooo yum – it’s been ages since I’ve had one as my IBS can’t seem to handle it too well *sob* But looks absolutely delicious!
Definitely an outdoor kinda week for you lovely lady – painting in the garden too, I bet that was fab, a real de-stresser 🙂 Karen xoxox

      • Oh dear 😦 Sorry to hear you have the same issue with chippy stuff too – it’s so darn yummy, such a nusiance!!! Yes, diary and gluten sets me off to *sigh* What are we like eh?! lol XXXX

      • I know huni, me too – but now it’s horrid! Do you find that sometimes you eat things and you’re okay and then other times it’s just awful? I kinda can’t seem to figure out what triggers me – very confusing. Think I may need some IBS treatment of some sort… another med to add to the list *sigh* XXXX

      • Yes I am exactly the same. Sometimes I can eat pasta with a generous amount of cheese followed by a creamy dessert fine and then another day I have instant pain and diahrea 😬 so frustrating as it isn’t consistent at all! Xxx I was prescribed Mebeverine by my gp to take before meals which does help and it stops the cramping xxx

      • YES!!!!! That’s me too Em!!!! Why on earth does that happen?! It’s so damn annoying – I’ve no idea what triggers it so erratically :-/ Hmmmm, might have to speak to my GP about giving me something though I fear I’m going to be on a massive mixture of medications 😦 I suppose one more daily pill wouldn’t hurt?! *sigh* XXXX

      • I know what you mean. I take quite a bit of meds and I used to never go to the GP! But now I am on a cocktail of stuff. It might be worth asking. I also take actimel every morning, or any yogurt probiotic drink and this has helped with my stomach issues, but I still get days which are unpredictable. Xxxx

      • Me too Em, feels like a second home now *rolls eyes* Hmmm that’s interesting – I will definitely look into buying the actimel… worth a try to see if it helps for sure. Never thought to give those a go!!!! XXX

      • I’d never thought about actimel either but I was referred to a dietician for my IBS and she recommended. She said try one brand only for 4 weeks and if you don’t feel any difference try a different brand for another 4 weeks and keep trying different brands until you find the right one for you as they all have slightly different ‘good’ bacteria in them. I have only tried actimel as after a couple of weeks my stomach had calmed down and wasn’t so unpredictable xxx

      • That’s crazy!! Most definitely a priority on the shopping list this week – I’m not sure if the GP is going to give me anything for it in terms of medication but I’ll definitely be trying the actimel. Anything for a peaceful bowel Emma *rolls eyes* XXXX
