It’s been quite a while since I last blogged about skincare so I thought it was about time I shared my love of acid exfoliators with you. I have always had a keen interest in skincare and since my early teens I have looked after my skin with regular cleansing and moisturising.
Exfoliating, however was often a skincare step I would shy away from, not entirely sure if this step was necessary or whether it would aggravate my sensitive skin.
I have to admit I was so so wrong. Since entering the world of beauty blogging I have learnt so much about skincare – especially from reading Caroline Hirons brilliant blog. Exfoliation is a very important step in achieving clear, bright and vibrant skin.
I have very sensitive skin and had only been using very gentle srubby exfoliators but was finding that my skin did look red after use and continued to look dull and lacklustre.
Step forward acid exfoliation!
These are acid exfoliators and use glycolic acid to gently exfoliate your skin, rather than using harsh scrubby bits! I love using these so here is my mini review of each product.
Nip + Fab Glycolic Fix Daily Cleansing Pads £12.99
I first stumbled across this brand whilst searching the skincare offers on Boots online. Nip + Fab is a new brand to me and these pads were half price so I thought for £6.49 they were worth a try.
This pot contains 60 double sided textured & smooth cotton pads which are soaked in the glycolic fix solution. These are gentle enough to use every day and it does suggest to use both morning and night, however I have only been using them once a day. One pad seems to be enough to sweep all over my cleansed face and neck and the solution does have a lovely orangey scent. This doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin at all. I follow these pads with a spritz of toner and moisturiser and my skin feels amazing. This was my first introduction into acid exfoliation and I didn’t look back.
Nip + Fab Glycolic Fix Night Pads Extreme £14.95
After the success of the daily pads I spotted these on a half price offer at Boots so just had to snap them up.
Again the pot contains 60 double sided textured & smooth cotton pads which are soaked in the extreme glycolic solution.
These are gentle enough to use each night and I have noticed that this is a stronger solution than the daily pads. When I swipe a cotton pad over my face it does leave a slight tingly sensation but this is short lived and does not irritate my skin. I am more likely to re-purchase these pads, even at full price as they are a stronger treatment and great value for money.
Alpha H Liquid Gold with Glycolic Acid (sample size of 50ml, full size is 100ml and £33.50)
Alpha H is a cult beauty brand and I really wanting to try liquid gold. I was so pleased that this was included in QVC’s first Try It Love It Box (for my full review click here).
This certainly lives up to the hype. I have seen a dramatic difference in the texture and feel of my skin within a week of using liquid gold. This is a highly concentrated solution which suggests you use every other night and if you want an intensive exfoliation treatment then do not follow this with any serums or moisturisers.
You have to apply this solution onto your own cotton pad so this is less convenient than the Nip + Fab. The scent of this solution reminds me of the smell of vodka or alcohol in general. The scent takes me back to my uni undergrad days of downing cheap vodka before a night out!
When I swipe this over my face it does give a subtle tingly sensation which soon passes. I quite like the feeling as it doesn’t leave my skin feeling or looking irritated but it is a sign that it is doing something. In the morning I wake up with flawless and bright skin. I have seen a massive improvement in the texture and radiance of my skin. I can see why this is a holy grail product and once this sample has all been used I will definitely purchase a full size.
My skin has been transformed since using acid exfoliators. I cannot praise them enough. All of the products mentioned above I would highly recommend – there is a product to suit all budgets and all faces!
Have you tried any of these products? Do you have any recommendations for me? I love reading and replying to your comments.
