Weekly Round-Up: #51

I am officially on the count down to holiday! In a weeks time we are going away for a few days to North Wales and I cannot wait. I think it’s unlikely I will be able to blog whilst away and I’m not sure whether I will be able to schedule posts from next Sunday onwards… We will have to wait and see!

The overwhelming themes of this week have been mindfulness & wellbeing (which includes food & art), monthly favourites and changing my hair colour.

Monthly Favourites

Did you catch my May Favourites? I have been getting my sugar fix (in the shower of all places) by using the fruit chew shower cream from Imperial Leather – absolutely gorgeous. I have also rediscovered the wonder that is the complexion sponge from Real Techniques – my foundation has never been so flawless. 

I have also been loving some of these tasty gluten & dairy free treats which have been helping settle my stomach.

Creativity has also been a strong favourite this month and I’ve adored experimenting with the pouring medium from liquitex. What do you think?

Mindfulness & Wellbeing

As you may or may not know I have been off work for a while with stress and anxiety. I am slowly rebuilding myself and taking control of my mental health and this week was the final session of the 8 week group mindfulness course.

We got given the above cartoon to take away to remind ourselves of what we have learned and achieved. I won’t go into too much detail right now but I might dedicate a post to anxiety and how mindfulness has positively impacted my wellbeing. 

One thing I have tried to practice in my everyday life is focussing on being truly present whenever I can. photography is a great creative outlet for me and I have found myself being totally absorbed in capturing beautiful moments in my garden. I have never paid proper attention to flowers & plants until I owned my own home and started to learn about photography. 

I have also been fascinated by watching this tiny wren build a nest and feed fledglings in this wooden structure which we call the bus shelter. A wren is an incredibly fast moving bird so capturing these photos was quite an achievement, especially through the kitchen window!


Our deer has also been back in the garden and seems to love to eat from these Hawthorne bushes. The deer is very cute and interesting to watch but it is eating up our garden!

I have also been focussing on nourishing my body and being much more mindful about the food I’m eating and the impact it has on my health. I have not been formerly diagnosed yet but my GP thinks I have the chronic pain condition fibromyalgia. I have every single symptom and have been trying to learn how to self manage the often excruciating pain & fatigue. Following a gluten free, dairy free and mostly no added refined sugar diet has seemed to have a really positive impact. 

I picked up this Moroccan spiced vegan, gluten free burger from Tesco which was delicious. It went perfectly with avocado and spinach. Yummy. 

I have also been eating a lot of quinoa and roasted vegetables as a nutritious and filling lunch. 

My boyfriend Dave doesn’t have much confidence when it comes to cooking but luckily I thoroughly enjoy preparing and cooking meals for the both of us. He is, however, light years ahead of me when it comes to making a mean omelette. This is an asparagus, vegan soya bacon and tesco free from smoked soya cheese omelette which was absolutely delicious. Thanks Dave! 

Changing My Hair: Blond to Red

Firstly please excuse the no make-up face but I just couldn’t wait to take a snap of my gorgeous new hair colour. 

I decided I needed a change and ditched my regular half head of blond highlights for an all over cool toned red/brown. I love it, it is such a different look for me. What do you think?
