This has been a jam packed week of being very busy and marks the start of some incredible adventures in the next chapter of my life! The main themes, as always have been food, friends and the awesome Halloween wedding!
Food: Autumn Comfort
We are finally moving house next week so this past week has been manic getting things sorted at work as I’ve had to take two weeks annual leave at short notice. Therefore food has had to be quick and easy so my healthy eating plan hasn’t been the best over the past few days.
There is something so comforting about a piping hot bowl of freshly prepared soup with a big chunk of bread with lashings of butter. We have been enjoying this combination a few times this week and it is just so good! Tomato soup is my favourite – it cannot be beaten. Delicious.
Whilst we were in Lidl we picked up some fresh gnocchi for 99p and some blue cheese which was on special offer. I cooked the gnocchi and mixed it with some pesto and topped with a generous helping of the blue cheese to create this easy, simple yet truly tasty and satisfying meal. Yummy!
On Wednesday night we had to drop off some last minute papers to our solicitors for our house move so dinner had to be on route! We stopped at an American style diner which was on the side of a busy A road. We shared nachos to start and for main I went for Cajun chicken, Mac ‘n’ cheese and coleslaw. The chicken was really tender and all together was a hearty filling and delicious meal.
On Friday we made the 5 hour drive up north to Chester in anticipation of my friend Annie’s wedding at Chester Zoo on Halloween. We were exhausted from the drive with lots of traffic so decided on dinner at the local pub. I plumped for the breaded chicken, Cajun rice, coleslaw with a Peri-Peri sauce. I love spicy food so steam rolled ahead and doused my whole meal with the sauce… Big mistake! It was so extraordinarily spicy it spoilt my meal. #fail.
For dessert we initially ordered the profiteroles to share, however after taking our order and waiting for a good 20 minutes they decided to inform us that they were out of profiteroles so offered us the brownie ice cream sandwich to share.
It was epic! I’m not entirely sure if they gave us an extra large serving as they messed up our original order but needless to say the dessert was scrumptious! You can’t go wrong with brownie and ice cream. Yum yum!
Wedding: Friends & Halloween
On Saturday we were invited to my good friend Annie’s wedding at the Manor House in Chester Zoo. My friends Steph, Stephen and their two children Taylor and Joshua were also invited and we all stayed together at the same Premier Inn in Chester.
Annie, Steph and I met at University in Hull in 2003 and next year will mark 10 years since we graduated! Time certainly does fly!
The venue was a stunning Manor House which was the perfect setting for Annie and Dan to marry on Halloween. The house was tastefully decorated with a Halloween inspired theme complete with skulls, cobwebs, sweets and knitted homemade pumpkins, gargoyles and bunting.
The bridesmaids wore beautiful orange retro style dresses complete with underskirts for added volume. Whilst the gorgeous bride looked stunning in a purple and green dress complete with zombie patterned boots!
The beautiful bride and groom. It was a perfect day. Not a rain cloud in sight! Beautiful setting in the trees surrounding the Manor House in the zoo. Perfect.
Cute little miss Taylor with her dad. She loved her witches hat and star spangled tights!
Dave and I after a few drinks. I look incredibly pale in this photograph! I’ve been loving my new make up, especially the Collection fast stroke eyeliner – it didn’t budge or smudge on my hooded eyes! The staying power of the Bourjois Rouge Velvet liquid lipstick was incredible. It survived the wedding breakfast, several drinks and a buffet without budging! Impressive stuff.
Delicious wedding breakfast of afternoon tea. Delectable sandwiches, scones, doughnuts and a selection of mini desserts. Absolutely perfect.
Just look at this spectacular wedding cake! Three beautiful tiers of delicious cake covered in a Corpse Bride/Nighmare Before Christmas decorations. An absolute masterpiece, so intricate and detailed. Stunning.
I had a wonderful time celebrating the wedding of Annie and Dan. A great time was had by all. A great end to a busy week!
I hope you have enjoyed my weekly round-up. Let me know what you think – what did you do this Halloween? I love reading and replying to your comments.
