Birchbox – July 2015: The Unveiling

So this months Birchbox has transformed into a stylist and summer-ready Birchbag

This great twist on the beauty box format was fantastic as it even slipped through my letterbox without any hassles – no need to collect the parcel from the post office! Genius!

There were four different colours of these cute, bright, fun waterproof clutch bags which you could have received, each design inspired by editors from UK magazines favourite holiday destinations. The four colours available were the St. Tropez inspired hot orange, beautiful turquoise inspired by the Greek Island of Hydra, bright yellow to reflect the sun in Somerset and the hot neon pink colour which I received, inspired by the much-loved party Isle of Ibiza.

My favourite colours are blues and greens so I was hoping for the turquoise, however the pink was a close second. These are great useful clutch bags – perfect for stashing make-up and bits and bobs when travelling so I’m sure I will find a good use for this lovey bag.

Now on to the products picked for me inside….

L-R: Prep, blot & blend sponge, POP beauty eyeshadow trio, SOIGNÉ nail polish, UNANI Aloe Vera Gel, BioNike cleansing water, Benefit Dream Screen

Barely: Prep, Blot & Blend Sponge (Full Size) £5.99

I have yet to try any Beauty Blender type product so I am intrigued by this. In the description it does say it’s a sponge specifically for perfecting your base – used to smooth on your skincare and primers so this should be interesting to try!

POP Beauty: Eyeshadow Trio in Peach Parfait (Full Size is £15.50)

This was a nice surprise in this months BirchBag a beautiful trio of peach toned eyeshadows.

Left to Right: Pale shimmery eyeshadow perfect for highlighting, beautiful rose gold hued eyeshadow, stunning bronze toned eyeshadow.

All of these shadows have a really light buttery texture and have beautiful shimmer shot through them. I am looking forward to giving these a proper trial.

SOIGNÉ: Nail Polish Lavande (Full Size) £11

I have never heard of this brand, but as you all probably know I am a massive lover of all things nails so just couldn’t wait to give this a whirl.

As you can see this is a lovely soft creamy lavender/lilac/mauve shade – absolutely stunning. I am impressed with the consistency and texture of this polish. It also has a brilliant curved brush which makes precise application a breeze. Great quality nail polish – I will definitely have to purchase more from this brand. I also rather like the bottle, cute and stylish.
UNANI: Aloe Vera Gel (Full Size worth £15)

This again is a new brand to me, this is a soothing aloe vera gel moisturiser and a good 30ml size.

I do struggle in the sun as I have a bizarre and rare UV allergy which means areas of my skin which are exposed to the sun break out in itchy, and unslightly bumps. Anything which can soothe these bumps on my hands and arms is a great idea in my book, so I was eager to give this a go. It has a clear gel like texture which sinks into the skin instantly – much like water. I was surprised that the gel appeared to have no scent at all – I was expecting an aloe vera type scent.

BioNike: Defence Tolerance Essential Cleansing Water (Full Size worth £12.20)

This cleanser is perfect for festivals or on the go as no water is required! Intriguing! This describes itself as a cleanser suitable for very sensitive skins and will remove make-up and leave your skin fully clean and fresh. I have to say, I wasn’t blown away when I saw this in my bag. I am a massive fan of skincare, and love my creamy cleansers so I’m not sure if this will be a winner with me… We shall see.

Benefit: Dream Screen (Full Size worth £25)

This is the first Benefit sample I have ever received in a beauty box and I have to say I am impressed. This is a small 6ml sample, however the packaging is super cute and what you would expect from the wonderful Benefit brand.

This describes itself as a lightweight matte-finish SPF 45 sunscreen which is suitable for the face and great under make-up. As I’ve mentioned before I do struggle in the sun so finding a good SPF protection is a must. I have big expectations for this little product!

All in all I am impressed with this months Birchbag. A great selection of products with a summer holiday theme. I’m sure I’ll get good use out of them all.

  1. I absolutely love Birchbox, and I’ve been subscribed for years now! You got quite a similar box to me, but I didn’t get the nail varnish or the cleansing water, and I got a head band instead of the sponge. The varnish is such a beautiful shade, I’ve gotten a SOIGNÉ polish in the past – they’re such good quality! Great post x
