I have steered clear of cream eyeshadows for several years after having a bad experience with (surprisingly) both a Benefit and a MAC cream pot eyeshadow. I found the Benefit one creased and slid around on my lids – never actually ‘setting’ and the MAC one applied beautifully but would literally flake off during the day! I also found that both pots dried out very quickly and for more high-end make-up brands I was not impressed and I steered clear of long-lasting cream eyeshadows. I instead opted for a good eyeshadow primer and powder eyeshadow (I am a fan of MAC powder shadows and of course Urban Decay, and Bourjois single pot eyeshadows).
With the warmer climes fast approaching I have been finding that powder eyeshadows can feel quite heavy and cakey on the lids so wanted to try something a bit different.
I have been reading a lot of great reviews from you fellow bloggers about the Maybelline 24hr Color Tattoo cream eyeshadows raving about how incredible they are – so I thought I should take the plunge!
Let’s start with the Maybelline 24hr Color Tattoo Cream Eyeshadows. What can I say? Believe the hype people; believe the hype! I cannot quite believe how gorgeous these eyeshadows are – they have such a smooth buttery texture which glides on the lids and actually stays in place! They do ‘set’ quite quickly so they need to be buffed and blended fast if you want a softer look. They can be applied using your finger from the pot or using a eyeshadow brush – both have achieved perfect results.
Pink Gold caught my eye as a bright rose-gold inspired shadow for summer. I tend to stay quite neutral with my eye make-up, sticking to gold tone shadows which I think enhance the gold shades in my hazel eyes. So I thought this gold inspired pink would mix-it-up a bit – just gorgeous!
On and On Bronze – This is a blogger favourite, I have watched many a Essie Button YouTube video raving about this colour and I am so impressed. This shadow is beautifully pigmented and has enough gold tones in the gorgeous bronze to make my eyes pop.
I have been testing out both these shadows over the past couple of weeks and I have been really impressed with the staying power. Once the cream shadow has ‘set’ there is no budging this stuff until you want to remove it (and it comes off easily with cleanser). No creasing, no sliding, no flaking! It just stays put until you want to take it off – perfect! It also doesn’t feel heavy on my lids, so much so that I sometimes forget I’ve got it on and I inadvertently rub my eyes… But it doesn’t smudge! This is truely incredible stuff. I am looking forward to trying the Gold shadow in this range next. 😊
Bourjois 2-in-1 Colorband Eyeshadow and Liner – Beige Minimal
I am a massive fan of Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum foundation and their individual powder Little Round Pot Intense Eyeshadows so I had high hopes for this crayon style long-lasting cream eyeshadow. I am however on the fence.
I decided on the shade Beige Minimal which when swatched on the hand is a beautiful peach toned gold shimmery colour which has a soft buttery texture – looks gorgeous.
However I have struggled with this application on my lids. The pigmentation seems good when swatched but I struggled to build up to this level of intensity on the eyelids – the pencil crayon proved difficult to apply evenly and to achieve a good colour intensity. This is much more of a sheer eyeshadow which leaves a shimmer to the lids without much colour – might be better to use as a highlight with darker shadows? I’m on the fence with this one – will need some more experimenting!
Have you tried any of the cream shadows by Bourjois or Maybelline? What are your thoughts? Any recommendations?
