Birchbox – May 2015: The Unveiling

I am still a newbie to beauty boxes. I had my first Glossybox last month which I loved. I have been reading a lot about Birchbox and when I read the great blog by Tattooed Tea Lady  which offered a £5 off code to try May’s box I couldn’t resist!

My first Birchbox arrived yesterday. It is a monthly beauty box costing £10 + postage and packaging. This month I could choose which full size product from WAH London I would prefer. The choice being between a nail pen, press on nails or a mystery nail product. I choose a nail art pen which I did receive, however I understand that you may not always receive your preference.

This months Birchbox has a theme of ‘Free Your Mind’ and the lid of the box is of a pattern which you can colour in! I am really getting into colouring in so am looking forward to trying this out! There is also a competition where you can take a photo of your coloured in box for a chance to win £500 of beauty treats from the Birchbox shop!

L – R:

Nude ProGenius Omega Treatment Oil (sample size 5ml) full size version is worth £58. This is a new brand for me and I have never tried a facial oil so am looking forward to giving this a try! It boasts to provide your skin with nourishing hydration using a blend of plant oils and omegas 3, 6, 7 and 9.

Parlor moisturising sea salt spray (sample size 30ml). This is a Birchbox exclusive. I think it is a type of leave-in conditioner/texture styling spray. It has a nice fruity fresh smell. I have never tried anything like this so am intrigued to give it a go!

Jelly Pong Pong – Caribbean Sun Bronzer Duo in Martinque (sample size) full size worth £15.95. I have heard of this brand but have never used anything by them. This is a bronzer duo (see pic below for a close up).

I am still a newbie to using bronzers. I have very pale skin and am still learning how best to use and apply bronzer so I am not sure I will get loads of use out of it – however it is a good size to experiment with. The left shade is a light brown matte shade and the right is a deeper shimmery shade. Both very pretty and the packaging is cute.

Selection of colouring pencils – these have been included in the box to try out colouring in the lid. Lovely idea!

Number 4 – Lumiere d’Hiver Reconstructing Masque (sample size 7.5ml). This is a leave in hair masque which promises to leave your hair smooth, strengthened and shiny. I do have very thick and coloured hair which is prone to being very dry and damaged so I do use hair masques regularly – however I am not sure if 7.5mls of a product will suffice on my length and thickness of hair…. Looking forward to giving this a try though!

WAH London – Nail Art Pen in shade 08. I enjoy painting my nails and have yet to try a nail art pen so this interested me and this is why I choose this as my preference.   It has two application tips in one! Which I thought was very clever. Top photo shows the small pen nib type applicator – this can be used to create small intricate designs on your nails. The photo above shows the tiny brush type applicator which can be used to create precise line work on your nails. I only used the pen nib (see below).

Above is my first quick attempt at nail art – I found the product easy to use and would like to try some different colours to create different designs.

Liz Earle – Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser + Muslin Cloth. (sample size 30ml). I am a massive fan of Liz Earle and this hot cloth cleanser is one of my staple skin care products. This sample is a good travel size or even as a gift to introduce a friend to this wonderful brand! Love love love ☺️
Stila – Lip Glaze. I think this is a full size product. Again, Stila is a brand I have heard of but have never tried anything from their range. I am a fan of lip glosses and this is a gorgeous sheer peach tone colour with a subtle gold shimmer. I like the packaging – lip gloss in a pen with a precision brush applicator. Very cute and quirky. The consistency of the gloss is quite thick and sticky but it looks nice on the lips and is quite moisturising.

All in all I am rather pleased with this first box. I can’t wait for this months glossybox!

What do you think?

    • I have only had two boxes so far – one Glossybox and one Birchbox. So far I think the Glossybox is better value because I prefer skin care products rather than hair care etc xxx

  1. The nail art pen is ace! I think that neutral nail varnish you got in your glossy box a few weeks ago would be the perfect base for art 🙂
